Reverse Painted Plexiglass Monoprints

Reverse Painted Plexiglass Monoprints

A modern twist on reverse glass painting, these paintings combine monoprinting and painting on the reverse side of plexiglass.  Layers of color are selectively built up and removed in a multi-step process in order to create each piece.  Asemic writing is often used to add a calligraphic quality.  The result is a highly reflective piece, viewed from the front through 1/4" of clear lucite.  Hand-polished edges allow light to enter from the sides, while the colors and textures of the archival inks and pigments shift and shimmer as one moves around the piece.     Finished on the back and mounted to a hidden metal frame, each piece appears to “float” an inch from the wall when hung.  The reflective nature of the plexiglass mirrors the environment in which it is displayed, giving it a depth and dimension best viewed in person.
